Run a LightBurn material test without inventing a setting

A test grid is an experiment tied to one machine, material sample and setup—not a calculator.

Applies when

For supported machines after the manufacturer’s safety and material checks are complete.

Transfer warning

Grid labels and percentages are controller-relative and must not cross machines.

Before power

Verify the context

  • Save machine/model, module/tube rating and power definition.
  • Verify exact sample identity and thickness.
  • Confirm focus, air assist, exhaust and workholding.
  • Choose safe axis bounds from the exact manufacturer—not this site.

Bounded workflow

Run one defensible test

  1. Open LightBurn Material Test and choose two variables.
  2. Frame the grid with the laser disabled or per manufacturer procedure.
  3. Label every cell with units and fixed parameters.
  4. Run under continuous supervision; stop at the first unsafe cell.
  5. Photograph/log all cells including failures and keep the source file locally.

Success signal

What counts

At least one bounded cell meets the prewritten outcome without unsafe behavior; the context record is complete.

Failure branch

What to test next

A grid with missing labels, changing focus, mixed samples or an unsafe cell is invalid.

Safety boundary

Mandatory stop condition

Stop on flame, unexpected fumes, machine fault, loose sample or any cell outside manufacturer limits.

Manufacturer instructions override this page. Read the safety policy.

Eligible records

No qualified numeric record approved

This page provides applicability and a test method. Missing evidence is shown instead of filled with a guess.

Unknown is the answer.

No source record currently passes qualification and this page’s exact material, operation and thickness constraints.
